How the “Chicken Coop” got it’s name?
Our family farm in Western New York (established in 1886) had several generations of farmers who bred bovine, cultivated agriculture and raised a variety of other animals, including chickens. After the late 1930s, many of the younger family members moved away to the big cities for better employment. At this point, the farm ceased raising livestock and converted to more of a summer home for these city dwellers. Fast forward to today and several of the old building endured many years of neglect! The corncrib, milk house, smoke house and the two story chicken coop had seen better days.
In the summer of 2011, we removed the dilapidated chicken coop and cleared the site to rebuild a family barn to include all the amenities of a clubhouse, yet built like a barn. To honor the site’s heritage, we named the new family barn the “The Chicken Coop” – from which a brand was born…
